Development begins for SSF Strategic Plan 2025–2030

December 18 2024

The Sheep Sustainability Framework’s (SSF) first strategic plan, which transformed the framework from a concept into a robust industry sustainability reporting mechanism, has come to an end. Development is now underway for the framework’s second strategic plan.

The next strategic plan will set the direction for the SSF over the next five years, with development led by consultant Russell Pattinson of Miracle Dog Consulting.

“A strategic plan is crucial for the SSF and allows you to set where and what you want to be in five years’ time,” Russell said.

“To develop this plan, we need to decide where we want the framework to go to be successful in the years to come.”

The first strategy was built on three key pillars – stakeholder engagement, data collection and reporting, and continuous improvement. However, it remains to be seen what will form the foundation of the framework’s next phase.

In addition to guiding the SSF’s development and growth, the first strategic plan played a critical role in identifying priorities and areas for improvements for the future.

“While it might be good to have a clean slate, this new strategic plan will certainly build on a very strong foundation that has already seen so much progress for the SSF.”

A voice for all

Stakeholders across the supply chain will play a key role in shaping the new strategic plan through consultation and opportunities to provide direct feedback.

The recent SSF Consultative Committee Forum, held in Melbourne on 3 December, marked the first opportunity for stakeholders to share their perspectives on the framework’s future direction.

SSF Sustainability Steering Group Chair Scott Williams said stakeholder engagement was critical to an effective strategic plan.

“It’s a valuable exercise to get a sense of what we need to do better, whether it’s communicating with stakeholders or a different way of presenting of our data,” Scott said.
